Motion sickness and comfort
Technology that manipulates people's sense of space can cause discomfort or nausea, with VR sickness being a particularly salient example. Despite best efforts to align sensory inputs (e.g., matching visuals to vestibular cues), even minor delays between head movement and visual can create sensory discrepancies that the brain interprets as disorienting (delays of 20ms or above118). Providing user-controlled personalisation settings, allowing for a period of adaptation, avoiding contradictory sensory signals and incorporating regular breaks, can all help mitigate these effects.
